Tax Credit Deadline Extended for Service Members
Members of the U.S. military, foreign service and intelligence communities have an extra year to buy a principal residence in the U.S. and qualify for the homebuyer tax credit. As long as the qualified service member has been on extended duty outside of the U.S. for 90 days or more (between January 1, 2009 and April 30, 2010), he or she has until April 30, 2011 to sign a sales contract and until June 30, 2011 to close on the property.
 
Lead Safe Rules Effective April 22, 2010
Effective April 22nd, new lead safe rules apply to renovations, repairs and painting, performed for compensation, on residential properties built before 1978 or facilities regularly occupied by children. The new rules require renovation, repair and painting contractors to be certified and to use specific lead safe work practices to minimize the generation of lead paint dust.

RVAR’s Board of Directors has endorsed candidates for election to the three open seats on Roanoke City Council. Interviews were conducted with all candidates. Questions focused on job creation and retention, funding for schools, budget concerns and best use of City-owned assets. Each candidate will receive a $1,000 RPAC contribution.
